The search for the next big country music star kicked off on Tuesday, January 7, on TG4.

Glór Tíre is back in The Quays, Galway, for 12 weeks, as six hopeful singers battle it out with help from mentors, Mike Denver; Trudi Lalor; Patrick Feeney; John McNicholl; Ciarán Rosney; and Jim Devine.

The show is presented by Aoife Ni Thuairisg and Seamús Ó Scanláin, with help from the judges, John Creedon, Caitríona Ní Shúilleabháin and Jó Ní Chéide who advise and guide the contestants. The public decide who stays and who will go each week.

Glór Tíre has featured singers such as Lisa McHugh, Nathan Carter and Chantelle Padden over the years.

This year’s singers are:

  • Sinéad Black from Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, who will be mentored by Ciarán Rosney;
  • Paschal McAnenly from Ballygawley, Co. Tyrone, mentored by Jim Devine;
  • Alex Roe from Clara, Co. Offaly, mentored by Trudi Lalor;
  • Lisa Callanan from Craughwell, Co. Galway, mentored by Mike Denver;
  • Philip Magee from Larne, Co. Antrim, mentored by John McNicholl; and
  • Aoife McDonagh from Ballymoate, Co. Sligo, mentored by Patrick Feeney.

Viewers decide who will stay each week, and can vote by downloading the Glór Tíre app in the app store or on Google playstore.

Glór Tíre 2020 can be seen on Tuesday nights at 9:30pm on TG4. Máire Ní Chonláin, commissioning editor, said that TG4 is delighted that Glór Tíre is returning for its 16th season.

“The country music competition is hugely popular with our audience and brings a dedicated country music audience to TG4 every Tuesday night.

The show provides a platform to young talented singers who get a chance to sing with established singers such as Mike Denver, Patrick Feeney, Trudi Lalor and others.

“As well as on-air, the show has also attracted huge numbers to the Facebook page where they get to see what happens off-stage. We are looking forward to a great competition this year that will continue until March,” she said.
