The weekend is forecasted to be mainly sunny, warm, and often dry, but with rain remaining, which may turn heavier on Tuesday, according to Met Éireann.

Today (Friday, May 17) will see a rather cloudy start across Leinster and Munster with some patches of rain, drizzle and mist. It will be generally dry in Connacht and Ulster with sunny spells developing as overnight patches of mist and fog clear.

It will brighten up across most of the country during this afternoon with a mix of cloud and sunny spells along with the chance of a few heavy showers breaking out towards evening time.

Maximum temperatures today will general range from 17° to 21° but a little cooler along the northwest coast in moderate northerly breezes.

Showers are expected to die out early tonight to leave a dry night across much of the country. However, areas of mist and fog will form as winds generally fall light inland. Lowest temperatures will range from 9° to 12°.

Mist and fog will clear tomorrow morning (Saturday, May 18), to leave a day of sunny spells and scattered showers. Showers will be most frequent in the east and south with the odd heavy downpour possible.

Highest temperatures tomorrow will generally range from 16° to 19° but a little cooler across north Ulster and north Connacht, with moderate to fresh northerly winds.

Any showers will ease quickly on Saturday night and skies will clear. Lowest temperatures will be 7° to 10° in moderate northerly winds.

It looks set to be a predominantly dry day on Sunday (May 19), with good spells of sunshine. A few showers will develop in the afternoon, mainly across the midlands and south. Highest temperatures will be 18° to 21° with light northerly or variable breezes.

Sunday night is set to be mostly dry with any showers clearing early on. A few patches of mist or fog may develop as winds fall light. Lowest temperatures should be 7° to 10°.

It will be warm on Monday (May 20), with long spells of sunshine developing. Showers will break out in some areas during the afternoon and evening with the possibility of a few thunderstorms. Highest temperatures will likely range from 19° to 22° in mostly light southerly or variable winds.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue in some areas on Monday night, with a spell of persistent rain expected to develop in the west and southwest. Lowest temperatures should be 9° to 12° with light southwest or variable winds.

Met Éireann said that current indications suggest Tuesday (May 21) will be mostly cloudy, with showers and longer spells of rain pushing east. However, a few heavy or thundery downpours cannot be ruled out. Highest temperatures of 14° to 17° are expected, in a moderate westerly wind.
