Advice and insight for regenerative agriculture enthusiasts

The BioFarm 2020 conference is moving online this year. The event which has proved massively popular over the past few years focuses on regenerative, biological and organic agriculture.

Among the international speakers confirmed so far are Allan Savory who will discuss holistic management and the principles of regenerative agriculture.

Gabe Brown farms 5,000ac in North Dakota in the US where he practices no-till, grows multi-species cover and companion crops and interestingly uses managed grazing techniques that allow most of his pastures a year of recovery time between feeding periods. He is the author of the famous book Dirt to Soil: One Family’s Journey into Regenerative Agriculture.

Christine Jones from Australia spoke at last year’s conference and will focus on soil health, biodiversity and nutrient cycling.

Nicole Master from New Zealand is an independent agroecologist who guides farmers in producing quality food, while also building biological economies.

Key topics to be discussed over the four days include:

Looking after our soils;
Biodiversity and diversification;
Carbon sequestration – looking to the future;
Business models – making money from biological farming;
Food health – biological/regenerative from farm to fork;
Farmer education and knowledge transfer;
Flood mitigation and water retention;
The future of biological and regenerative farming.

The event, which is organised by the National Organic Training Skillnet, will run across five days (November 9-13) and will feature live-streamed presentations as well as in-person panel discussions with interactive question and answer sessions from 4:00pm to 8:00pm each day.
